IṬṬ

s. f, Corrupted from the Sanskrit word Ishṭká. A brick:—iṭṭ khaṛkáuṉ, s. m. A kind of play:—iṭṭ khaṛkáuṉá, v. a. To build (a house):—iṭṭ nál iṭṭ khaṛkauṉí, wajáuṉí, v. a. lit. To strike one brick against another; to destroy any building to demolish:—iṭṭ nál iṭṭ wajjṉí, v. n. To be demolished, to fall to pieces:—iṭṭáṇ patthníáṇ, v. a. To make bricks:—iṭṭ siṭṭ, s. f. A common weed (Trianthema pentandra) found in waste ground in the plains. It is eaten as a pot-herb in times of scarcity, but apt. to produce diarrhœa and paralysis. The plant is officinal, being considered astringent in abdominal diseases, and is also stated to be used to produce abortion.
