s. m, The skull, the head, the forehead; fate:—kapál kiryá, s. m. A ceremony among Hindus, in which, when a corpse is nearly reduced to ashes, the son or nearest relative breaks the skull with a stroke of a bamboo and pours melted butter into the cavity, in order to allow the tenth sáṇs to escape, nine being supposed to have departed at the time of death; c. w. karní; i. q.
