KALAM

s. f. pl. kalamáṇ, Corrupted from the Arabic word Qalm. A pen, a reed pen to write with; a graft, cuttings of trees for planting; a wedge; a reddish wood of which combs are made:—kalamáṇ, s. m. The upper part of the beard tapering to a point:—kalamáṇ lagáuṉíáṇ, v. a. To set down slips or cuttings:—kalam banáuṉí, v. a. To mend a pen:—kalam chaláuṉí, wagáuṉí, v. a. To drive the pen, to write:—kalamdán, s. m. A pen-case:—kalam duát, s. m. f. Pen and ink:—kalam karná, v. n. To graft:—kalam kárí, s. f. Workmanship:—kalam láuṉí, s. m. To prune, to cut for grafting or planting:—par áí kalam, s. f. A quill pen:—kalam pherṉí, v. n. To run the pen through; to strike out, to erase; to cancel:—lakkháṇ te kalam.
