s. f, Corruption of the Arabic word Qismat. Fortune, lot, destiny, fate; a share:—kismat dá balí, s. m. lit. Fortunate or lucky; met. unfortunate or unlucky:—kismat diá balíá riddhí khír te hogiá dalíá. lit. O! fortunate man, rice and milk was cooked, and it turned out coarse porridge!—Prov. used when a man suffers a reverse of fortune or when his plans go wrong. See also Nasib, Lekh.
