s. f, kind of grass (Cymbopogon Iwarancusa.) It grows in hollows where water collects, and seems to prefer kallar. It has a peculiar fragrant smell, resembling that of lemons and is of a dark brownish red colour. Cows graze upon it if hard pressed, but not otherwise, though in the Amballa district they are said to crop it greedly. It contains little nutrition. The Bár house wives use whisps of this grass to clean out vessels used for churning or holding milk; a volatile oil "grass oil" and a spirit are distilled from it. The roots which are sometimes luminous and the heads are used medicinally. Supposed to be the Nardus of Arrian.
