s. m, eunuch; a Musalman shoe merchant; a widely spread caste of Muhammadans, who are keen traders. They follow all kinds of avocations. The name includes totally different peoples. One set are descendants of the assassins; the head of the clan who resides in Bombay is a lineal descendant of the "Old man of the mountain." The others are converts to Muhammadanism from amongst Hindus. Their kinship is with the Aroṛá caste. Many are Shíáhs.
