a, lf;—s. f. A scrap, a piece; an ordeal by a hot iron or hot oil, an ordeal of fire, taken into the hands, to prove one's innocence or guilt; a female of the Khanná caste:—ghar dí khanní báhar dí sárí náloṇ chaṇggí hai. A scrap (or a half bread) at home is better than a whole loaf abroad.—Prov:—Sáwaṉ Bhádoṇ ná warhe, táṇ Kátak kaníáṇ khanní roṭí do do janíáṇ. If it rains not in Sawáṉ and Bhádoṇ and there are drops in Kátak, a half loaf only will come to every two persons, i. e., to rain in Kátak will have no good to the autumn crop.
