CHHANNAṈÍÁṆ

s. f. (M.), sieve made of leather for sifting meal:—chhannaṉíáṇ bharná, v. a. The performance of a ceremony by the brother and brother's wife of the bride, or failing them any other near relatives. Accompanied by girls, they go round the house occupied by the bridegroom and his party, the brother draws water from some well near at hand and his wife throws it in again without approaching the brink.
