s. m, Corrupted from Sanskrit word Jaṭá. Root, origin, principle; matter (as opposed to spirit):—jaṛh jamáuṉí, v. a. To lay foundation:—jaṛh jammṉí, laggṉí, phaṛṉí, v. a. To take root, to be firmly rooted:—jaṛh kaṭṭṉí, v. a. To lay the axe to the root, to destroy, to damage:—jaṛh patál tík laggṉí, v. n. The same as jaṛh jammṉí;—jaṛh peṛ, s. m. f. A tree with the root entire, the entire tree with root and branches:—jaṛh múl, s. f. Root, stump, stock, a remnant of a family when the rest are all dead:—jaṛh ukháṛṉí, v. a. To root out, to uproot.
