s. f, Corrupted from the Sanskrit word Jawal. Flame, heat; a name of Dewí, the great Hindu goddess:—Jawálá Mukhí, s. f. Any place where fire breaks out from the ground, or where gas, which may be ignited, issues from the soil. It is held by the Hindus to indicate the presence of a form of Dewí whose shrine is in the Kangra District, and is the resort of thousands of pilgrims in September or October, and in March or April every year; i. q. Juálá.
