inter. voc, Soul! O my soul!:—jíá ghát, s. m. Taking life unwarrantably, whether of man, beast, or insect; murder; c. w. karná:—jíá ghátí, s. m. A destroyer of life, a murderer:—jíá ku, s. m. A little animated being, an animalcule, an insect:—jíá potá, s. m. A tree (Putranjiva Roxburghii) which grows in the eastern part of the Siwalik tract. It is handsome, and has fine foliage. The leaves are lopped off for fodder. The wood is white, strong, and durable, and in some parts of India is used by turners; though in the Punjab it is only made into implements of various sorts. The leaves and the stones of the fruit are used medicinally in some parts of the Punjab, and the stones are used by Hindu faqírs as necklaces.
