s. f, Corrupted from the Sanskrit word Jyotis. Light, lustre, a ray of light; the flame of a candle or lamp; a light generally that lighted before an idol or on any festival; eyesight, vision; soul, spirit, the divine life; a yoke, cultivation:—jág dí jot, s. f. (lit. lighted lamp or light.) Everburning light before idols or in temples, it may be artificial, or natural as in the jets of gas which issue in certain places from the ground; an appellation of the Dewí of Jawálámukhí:—jot jagáuṉí, v. n. To light a lamp before an idol or in a temple or on any religious festival:—jotmán, a. Bright, enlightened.
