s. f, n ascetic's wallet; the skirt of the waist-cloth used as a bag; a lap; a brood, a birth; as much grain as can be carried in the skirt of the waist cloth or shawl (chaddar); a small quantity of grain taken by the landlord in addition to the rent (one pai per patth or nearly 20 seers from every 32 maunds) for village menials:—jholí póuṉá, v. n. To throw into the lap; to throw a child into one's lap to be adopted; to seek one's protection:—jholíáṇ páuníáṇ, v. n. To throw dust from the skirt of a chaddar at the time of investigation of anything stolen:—chauth bár to páí jholí; ejiháṇ mujere dá Allah belí. The whole crop was a chauth, (about 70 seers), the landlord took a pai as jholí, Allah alone can protect such a tenant.
