Meaning in English2

s. f. (M.), ) A jewel set in a ring; cess levied by the Nawabs of Bahawalpur of two rupees on each path of grain in the crop after the Government share had been deducted. It is said to have originated thus: a concubine of a former Nawab lost a valuable jewel from a ring, to reimburse the loss of which he imposed the cess. Once imposed, it was collected regularly until abolished by Sawan Mal's government.
