v. a. (M.), ) To tear, to bite (as a dog); to root up. Present participle: pateṇdá; Future; paṭesáṇ; Past participle: paṭiá; Passive: patíjaṉ:—jai kúṇ kutte paṭiá, sat khalle wi uṉko máro. Give the man, whom the dog has bitten, seven blows of a shoe as well.—Prov. of double meaning: he not only got bitten but beaten as well. Seven blows of a shoe are supposed to prevent any bad effects of a dog's bite:—bhiṛiṉ sánh, paṭíjaṉ búṭe. When buffalo bulls fight small plants are torn up.—Prov. small people suffer when great people fall out.
