s. m, Corrupted from the Persian word Piyáz. An onion; Allium cepa, the same as Pad wassal which see:—A plant (Iris Kamaonensis, Nat. Ord. Irideæ) with narrowish leaves and purplish blue flowers having a pleasant odour, is common in parts of the Panjab Himalaya. In Chamba the root and leaves are given in fever:—bárání piáj, chírú piáj, s. m. The same as Gadwassal which see.
