PIPPAL

s. m, The peepul or sacred fig tree (Ficus religiosa, Nat. Ord. Moraceæ). The tree is considered a Brahmin. It is a cool and dry remedy. The leaves are used in boils and skin diseases. The bark is astringent. The fruit is laxative and if eaten for 14 days is said to remove Asthma and cause women to be fruitful:—pipplá goṇd, s. f. A red gum said to be the product of the Kikkar and used in making red ink.
