s. f, The wrong side, contrariety; the back; lying on the face with back up; a process or stage of a process (as in compounding medicines):—puṭṭh bannhṉí, v. n. To become strong, to grow fat:—puṭṭh deṉí, v. n. To wet, to steep a medicine, to go through a process (in compounding medicine):—puṭṭh kaṇḍá, s. m. A wild shrub (Achyranthes aspera, Nat. Ord. Amarantaceæ) common in the Punjab plains, and which also occurs in the Himalaya. The dried plant is given to children for colic and is medicinally used, as an astringent in gonorrhœa. Also the same as nílkaṇthí which see in Níl:—puṭṭh pairí, s. f. A witch.
