s. m. (M.), ) a very fatal disease which attacks cattle after they have eaten jawár which has been insufficiently watered, or immature turnips. The disease is common in the Panjab. There are three theories as to the cause: that it is due to the presence of a bacillus; that insufficient irrigation develops a poison in the jawár; and that the animals die from gaseous expansion of the stomach caused by eating large quantities of green fodder to which they are not accustomed:—jai kúṇ laggá paṭṭhá, phul ṭure ná sagá. Neither amulet nor charm will avail the animal attacked by paṭṭhá.—Prov.
