s. m, Corrupted from the Sanskrit word Baishṉav. Hindus who prefer the worship of Vishnú to that of any other god; the class includes many sects. The name is also commonly applied to vagrant mendicants who bear the marks and insignia of Vishnú, and repeat hymns in honour of his incarnations, especially under the forms of Rama and Krishna, and who abstain from meat.
