s. m, The common garden pea Pisum sativum, Nat. Ord. Leguminosæ. Introduced by the British. An article of diet, by the people made into dál and also ground into flour. Natives consider it hot, aperient, diuretic, useful in swellings and to increase the secretion of milk. They further believe that persons who sleep in fields of this plant become paralysed. It is largely raised for fodder on low inundated lands:—maṭar baṛá, s. m. Pisum sativum:—maṭar rewaṛí, s. m. A term in the Amritsar District for the small or field pea (Pisum arvense.)
