MADHÁṈÁ

Meaning in English2

s. m, churn stick, Dactyloctenium Ӕgyptiacum, Nat. Ord. Gramineæ, a grass of excellent quality, common in many places throughout the plains of the Punjab in the rains. It is so called, because its flower resembles a madháná or churner. Its seeds are occasionally eaten in times of scarcity, and it is reckoned good as a fattening and milk-producing pasture.
