s. m, Corruption of the Persian word Mamíráṇ. The rhizome of some indeterminate species of Thalictrum. It somewhat resembles the rhizomes of Thalictrum foliosum, Nat. Ord. Ranunculaceæ, with which it is sometimes confounded. There are two kinds, the small which is best and the large. It is very highly valued as an astringent application in eye diseases. The Makhzan-ul-Adwíyá describes three varieties, the Chini, which is said to come from China via Yarkund, of a dull yellow colour, a dark green sort called Khorasani, and a blackish yellow sort known as Hindi; i. q. Mumírá.
