s. m, ee (Quercus dilatata, Q. Floribunda, Nat. Ord. Cupuliferæ) which is abundant in many parts of the Panjab Himalaya. It grows to a large size, trees of 8 or 10 feet girth and 80 to 100 high. It furnishes the best wood of any oak of the N. W. Himalaya, the timber being hard, heavy, durable, and much used for ploughs, axe-handles, house-building. It is also said to be much used for jámpán-poles at some hill stations. The leaves are frequently given as fodder, for which purpose the trees are often very severely lopped and reduced almost to hop-poles.
