s. f. m. (M.), ) A red dye (saṇdhúr) with which Hindu married women colour the parting in their hair. It consists of red oxide of Lead. Hindus often use it for religious purposes, such as painting idols, marking rupees, for good luck. In the hills it is not uncommon to see a stone or boulder marked with the point to convert it into a Devi, the name of the month; Mágh.
