s. f, The band of a spinning wheel; the rope frame which hangs over the baiṛ of a Persian wheel. It consists of two ropes between which cross-bars (areṛíáṇ) of wood like the rings of a ladder are fixed. To the cross-bars the earthen pots are tied:—málh púṛá, s. m. A wheaten fritter, a pancake:—málh kaṇgṉí, s. f. A large scrambling shrub (Celastrus paniculata, Nat. Ord. Celastrineæ) common in parts of the Punjab Himalaya. The red seeds are given to cattle and are considered hot, and are administered for rheumatism. An oil is extracted from them, which is used externally and internally in rheumatism. The leaves also are used medicinally.
