s. m, plant (Trigonella fœnum græcum, Nat. Ord. Leguminosæ) commonly cultivated in the cold weather, and is grown for fodder but the young leaves are used as a pot-herb. The leaves are dried and used as seasoning. The seeds are used in fomentations and are given for colic and flatulency, and in the Arabian system for dysentery. They are considered tonic and demulcent, laxative and vermicide and emmenagogue. The seeds are roasted and used as coffee, and to form a yellow dye. The methí of Kasur is especially famous.
