ਰਾਸਨਾ

RÁSANÁ

Meaning in English2

s. m, n annual plant (Berthelotia lanceolata, Nat. Ord. Compositeæ) which grows abundantly in many parts of the plains up to Peshawar, in places forming thickets up to 4 and 5 feet high. Its roots extend to several yards, as they go. Although it is not considered particularly troublesome by Panjab agriculturists, it is said to be one of the chief evils with which cultivators near Agra, Jaunpur, &c., have to contend. Almost every specimen of Bazar Rásaná consists of the leaves of this plant, and in Sindh it is said to be used to adulterate, or rather. instead of Senna (Cassia acutifolia) as a purgative.
