s. m, plant (Ocimum Basilicum, Nat. Ord. Labiatæ) cultivated in the plains. The seeds constitute the chief part of the leaves, flowers, and seeds called fraṇj-muskk which are attributed to various species of Ocimum and other Labiatæ, i. e., Calamintha. The seeds and flowers are considered stimulant, diuretic, and demulcent, and are much used. The leaves are ground and applied to scorpion-stings.
