s. m, Colour, hue; paint, dye-stuff; manner, method; sort, amusement, merriment, pleasure; purpose, will (of God); a suit at cards, bark of the kikkar tree used to produce fermentation before distilling liquor, also for tanning:—raṇg baraṇgá, raṇg baraṇgí, a. Having a variety of colour:—raṇg bharná, v. n. To paint, to colour:—raṇg chaṛháuṉá, v. n. To dye, to paint (wood):—raṇg chaṛhṉá, v. n. To be painted, dyed; to be flushed with liquor; to be merry:—raṇg chhinakṉá, v. n. To sprinkle colour:—raṇg charí, s. f. A shrub (Elsholtzia polystachya, Nat. Ord. Labiatæ) which is found in the Punjab Himalaya. To the south of Kashmir it is said to be used as a dye:—raṇg chúl, s. m. A tree (Euonymus fimbriata, Nat Ord. Celastrineæ,) which is common in many places in the Punjab Himalaya up to near the Indus. It does not grow to a great size, and is not valued for construction, but the wood is close-grained and tough, and spoons are made of it. The leaves are eaten by goats, and on the Sutlej the red seeds are strung into ornaments for the head;—A shrub (Syringa Emodi, Nat. Ord Oleaceæ) which is found in many places in the Punjab Himalaya up to near the Indus. The wood is white and close-grained, and carves well. The leaves are eaten by goats:—raṇg ḍhaṇg, s. f. Appearance, aspect, phenomena; manner, sort, state, condition of things:—raṇg wekhṉá, v. n. To consider the consequences:—raṇg kaḍḍhṉá, v. a. lit. To change to a better colour (cattle, horse); to arrive at maturity; to be useful:—tinne lai khal núṇ, ghoṛí mahíṇ suraṇg; jioṇ jioṇ hon puráníáṇ, tioṇ tioṇ kaḍḍhaṉ raṇg. The zimíṇdárs desire three things, a mare, a she-buffalo, and a horse; these three become more useful as they grow older:—raṇg kheḍṉá, v. a. To throw colour and red powder on one another:—raṇg mahil, s. m. An apartment for festive enjoyment:—raṇgras, s. m. Contentment, satisfaction, mutual agreement and complacency between parties, pleasure:—raṇg raṇgílá, a. Beautiful:—raṇgrej, s. m. One who colours cloth, a dyer (used especially of those who work in indigo and Kusumbhá):—raṇg rúp, s. m. Beauty, comeliness; appearance, condition, state, circumstances; mode, manner, deportment:—raṇg rúp nikalṉá raṇg nikálṉá, v. n. To come out well (colour or beauty):—raṇg sáj, s. m. A painter of sign boards, carriages, &c.:—raṇg uḍḍ jáṉá, v. n. To lose colour, to become (fade):—raṇg lagá hoyá, a. Very fine or beautiful.
