LAMB
Meaning in English2
s. f, flame, a flash, a blaze; a lamp (corruption of the English word Lamp); a species of grass (Eragrostis spp, Nat. Ord. Gramineæ) common in the Punjab plains. It is considered good pasture-grass. The pounded seeds are eaten mixed with other flour in cakes, pottage, particularly in certain Hindu fasts and festivals:—lamb wálá sál, s. m. The year 1809 and 1837, when wheat flour rose to seven seers per rupee, is known near Lahore by the name of lamh wálá sál or mirak wálá sál, from the fact that the seeds of this grass were largely employed for food by the starving poor.
