SHATÚT
Meaning in English2
s. m, Corrupted from the Persian word Shahtút. Mulberry, (Morus alba, M. Cashmeriana, M. Indica, M. lævigata, M. Tatarica, M. serrata, Nat. Ord. Moraceæ) abundantly cultivated in the Panjab plains. The wood of old trees is strong and useful, and is much employed for all purposes in parts where the tree is common. The tree is chiefly grown for its leaves in agriculture and for its fruit, which is very palatable. In the Central Punjab by Shatút is understood a grafted mulberry, the non-grafted tree being called Tút. The wood of the latter alone is valued. Also see Túlklú.
