s. m, plant Hedychium spicatum, Nat. Ord. Zingiberaceæ) is not uncommon in parts of the Panjab Himalaya up to near the Jhelum. Its large broad leaves are twisted and made into coarse mats for sleeping on. The tuberous roots have as "wild ginger," been tried by Europeans as a preserve but without success. They are considered tonic and stimulant.
