s. m. (M.), ) An animal kept by another than its owner on condition that the keeper gets half its value when grown up, in other parts of the Panjab called Adhiárá:—sir parne, ad. Head downward, on one's head:—sir paṭakṉá, v. a. (lit. to beat the head on the ground.) To try hard, to be in earnest:—sir phaṛ ke bah jáṉá, baiṭhṉá, v. n. (lit. to have horns on head.) To have a mark on one's head:—sir suáh páuṉí, v. a. lit. To throw dust or ashes on the head; to lament:—sir suáh paiṉí, v. a. To be distraced, to be notorious, to be accused:—sir sukáuṉá, v. n. To dry one's hair:—sir sukkṉá, v. n. To dry (hair of the head):—sir te, ad. On one's head; at hand, near:—sir talwáíá, a. Perpendicular, steep, inclined, having the head downwards or bent forward, headlong:—sir te rakkhṉá, v. a. To put on one's head; to revere, to reverence:—sir te hatth dharṉá, v. a. To take under one's own protection or care; to patronize:—sir te hatth pherṉá, sir te piár deṉá, v. a. To stroke one's head:—sir te laiṉá, v. n. To take on one's shoulders; to risk one's life for another:—sir te sahṉá, v. n. To bear or suffer meekly:—sir te paiṉá, paiṉí, v. n. To fall to one's lot; to come on one:—sir wárṉá, v. a. To consecrate or give some money by making circles with it round the head of the bride and bridegroom at a marriage:—sir wichch suáh páuṉí, v. a. To throw dust on one's head; to lament.
