s. f, Colocynth, wild gourd also its plant (Cucumis Colocynthis.) This plant which furnishes the colocynth of the European pharmacopœias, grown abundantly in most of the arid sandy tracts of the Punjab from Dehli to Peshawar. Its fruit is extensively used as a purgative for horses, and the pulp is officinal, being given to men, in preference when fresh, in warm water, or when dried with ajwáiṉ, and it is reckoned especially valuable in cholera, which smacks of homeopathy.
