a. (K.), ) A plant (Asparagus racemosus), which is furnished with small spines, is common in parts of the Salt Range, Siwalik tract, and other hills. Its root is used medicinally for man and beast:—choṭṭá lewar, s. m. (K). A plant (Andromeda fastigiata) which strongly resembles heather, commonly found at the Bias basin:—chhoṭṭá moṭṭá, a. Little and big, short and thick:—chhoṭṭá nál, s. m. (M.) Sowing broad cast:—chhoṭṭá sáhab, s. m. A subordinate European officer:—chhoṭṭá vaṉ, s. m. A tree (Salvadora Indica) the wood of which is useless "even for burning;" the leaves are eaten by camels. Pieces of wood are carried to long distances for sale, as it is much favoured for tooth sticks (miswák) by Muhammadans, who use theirs for a number of times. The employment of it thus is said to be good for the digestion, and speedily to cure bleeding gums:—chhoṭṭá waḍḍá, s. m. Young and old; great and small, all; high and low, rich and poor; i. q. Chhoṭú.
