s. m, ed coloured thread; a species of very small green coloured insect which spoils vines. A disease of crops. It is said to attack all crops, but especially tobacco and melons in Jeṭh, wheat and ság (greens) in Poh and Mágh, juwár, til, chaṉá, cotton, múṇg, máṇh in Assú and Kátak. Wheat is not, however, injured by it; generally the plant attacked dries up, and an oily liquid is found on it. This is caused by a small yellow winged insect. The only remedy is rain which is supposed to wash off the oil; a blight on sugarcane which appears like dark powder.
