s. m, The name of a tree (Cedrus deodara), which grows in many parts of the Panjab Himalaya. Its timber is strong, sufficiently elastic, and not too heavy, and, on the whole, may be reckoned one of the best coniferous timbers in the world. In the Panjab the boats in use are mostly built of it. From the wood, often that of the roots, is extracted by a process of destructive distillation, an oil, which is dark-coloured and thickish, with an empyreumatic odour, and resembles crude turpentine in some respects; i. q.
