The wood is often very red, and it has a strong fœted smell when fresh; a plant (Polygonum Bistorta) common at places in the Panjab Himalaya. On the Sutlej the root is said to be applied to abscesses, and it is officinal in the plains, being very astringent; i. q. Aṇjbár.
