s. f, Corrupted from the Persian word Namáz. Prayer, worship; Muhammadan prayer:—namájwelá, s. m. Early in the morning, day-break:—wele dí namáj kuweledíáṇ ṭakkráṇ. Done at the right time it is prayer, at the wrong time it becomes a mere knocking of the knees against the ground.—Prov. used to show the beneficial result of punctuality and regularity.
