s. m, species (Valeriana Wallichiana, Nat. Ord. Valerianeæ) is not uncommon in various parts of the Panjab Himalaya. Its root (tagar) is largely exported to the plains, where it is used medicinally as an antispasmodic and stimulant. In the hills the root is also put in clothes to keep away insects.
