s. m, stone; an idol for worshipping:—pakhán bhed, s. m. (lit. Stone piercing.) A medicinal tree, (Saxifraga ligulata, Nat. Ord. Saxifragaceæ) with great and handsome flowers often found growing on rocks in the Panjab Himalaya up to the Indus. The leaves are frequently used as plates, the root is bruised and applied to boils or for ophthalmia, in some of the places where the plant grows. It is reckoned absorbent, and given in dysentery and cough. The root is said to be able to make its way through a rock hence the name of the plant.
