s. f, Indian corn, maize, (Zea mays, Nat. Ord. Gramineæ) A common hot weather crop. In some parts of the Province it forms a staple of the food of the people, ground and made into bread; a much smaller proportion of it is eaten roasted in the ear in the Panjab than elsewhere in northern India. It is of many kinds, red and white; i. q. Makkí.
