s. m, creeping plant (Citrullus vulgaris, Curcurbita citrullus, Cucumis citrullus, Nat. Ord. Cucurbitaceæ) commonly cultivated throughout the Panjab plains. If not really wild, it is apparently so, and covers the ground for miles in sandy deserts near Sirsá, and in the Sindh Sagar Doab, ripening in the cold weather. It grows also over immense tracts on the low ground along some of the rivers, i. e., the Bias, in Gurdaspur. Its fruit is a favourite with the people, and in Shahpur the seeds are eaten parched, with other grain. Its seeds are also used medicinally; i. q. Hadwáṉá, Tarbúj.
