s. f, foreigner: :—wilaití beṇgaṉ, s. m. Solnum Lycopersicum, Nat. Ord. Solanaceæ:—wilaití ḍák, s. f. The export or import Home Mail—wilaití kaṇtálá, s. m. Agave Americana, Nat. Ord. Liliaceæ grows well as a hedge in many parts of the Panjab plains. The fibre yields a first rate textile material, which has not yet been tried on the large scale:—wilaití kikkar, s. f. (1) The Parkinsonia aculeata, it makes good fences; the wood is used for charcoal burning and as fuel. (2) The Acacia farnesiana, the wood is small and resembles that of the kíkar. It exudes a good gum, in Europe a scent is prepared from the flowers:—wilaití meṇdhí, s. f. The myrtle, Myrtus commuuis, Nat. Ord. Myrtaceæ. The bark and leaves are used in tanning, the seeds in dyeing. They are astringent and aromatic, and were formerly used as spices. The leaves are given medicinally in epilepsy and in various bowel complaints, the fruit in diarrhœa and uterine diseases. See Múrad:—wilaití níl, s. m. Prussian blue, indigo prepared in European factories in Bengal:—wilaití peorí, s. f. The yellow Plumbic Chromate; it is called peori from its resemblance to "Hardwarí peorí" or Indian yellow.
