KATÁB
ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਰਥ2
s. f, Corruption of the Arabic word Kitáb. A book:—ahl katáb, s. m. lit. Those possessing the book, i. e., those who possess a revelation from God. The phrase is applied by Mohammedans, to themselves, Jews and Christians, as those to whom a revelation has been vouchsafed, i. e., the old Testament to the Jew, the new Testament to the Christian, and the Quran to the Muhummedan. The former revelations are said to have been corrupted and are now declared to be abrogated according to Mohammadan belief by the Quran. Those who are not Ahl-i-Kitáb are called káffirs:—Katáb Aláhí, s. m. The Quran.
