s. f, The name of a medicine; a reed or coarse grass (Saccharam spontoneum, Nat. Ord. Gramineæ.) which is common on island throughout the Punjab plains and the root of which is called khas. It is used for chiks, ṭaṭṭís, &c. and pens are made from its stem. It is also given as fodder to buffaloes:—buḍhiáṇ ḍhaggiáṇ dí wáhí ugge dabbh te káhí. Land ploughed by old cattle, grows only spear grass and reed in it; i. q. Kán.
