s. m, Catechu. An astringent vegetable extract which is used medicinally as well eaten with betel leaf. It is the produce of Acacia Catechu, Nat. Ord. Legumineæ. Punjab Catechu is always of the pale variety, and differs from the pale Catechu officinal in the British Pharmacopœia in that the latter is the product of Uncaria Gambier, Nat. Ord. Rubiaceæ.
