s. m, Corrupted from the Sanskrit word Kúp. A well; met. A man of deep sense:—khúh chhaḍḍṉá, v. a. To unyoke the oxen working a well, to stop drawing water from a well:—khúh joṉá, v. a. To yoke the bullocks to the works of a well. To irrigate from a well:—khúh khaṭṭṉá, v. a. To dig a well:—khúh dí miṭṭí khúh laggṉí, lit. The earth of a well is spent on a well.—Prov. used that the proceeds of a thing are spent on the thing itself and no gain accrues at all:—akal bájhoṇ khúh khálí. Without wisdom the well is empty:—khúh piá thál ná mihná ná gál. The platter has fallen into the well what is the use of accusation or abuse (no good crying over spilt milk):—khúh wichch bolṉá, v. n. To speak in a low tone.
