s. f. m, knot, a tie; a joint; a hardened or enlarged gland; a bundle, bale of goods; a sub-division of the Aroṛás; a knot in the corner of a garment in which money is secured, and which serves as a pocket; a piece, a patch, a splice:—akkh dá annhá te gaṇḍh dá púrá. Blind and rich (a rich fool for a customer):—gaṇḍh bhejṉí, ghallṉí, v. a. To send a knotted thread to the guests expected at a wedding to intimate the time of the ceremony; in like manner to announce a fair or other assembly (a practice of faqírs):—gaṇḍh dá púrá, s. m. A rich, wealthy person:—gaṇḍh kaṭṭṉí, waḍḍhṉí, v. n. To have one's pocket to be picked:—gaṇḍh laiṉá, v. n. To win or draw over, to bring over to one's side:—gaṇḍh láuṉá, v. n. To patch, to splice:—gaṇḍh páuṉí, v. n. To knot a thread; to appoint a day for wedding:—gaṇḍh tupp, s. m. Patching, mending:—gaṇḍh tupp karná, v. a. To sew, to patch together, to splice:—gaṇḍhoṇ khálí Rab de sawálí. Empty pockets, and you come to petition God.—Prov. used of the avarice of shrine-keepers.
